What is Slurry Pump Throat Bush

The throat bush in a slurry pump is a critical component that contributes to the pump’s efficiency, longevity, and reliability by providing wear protection, maintaining a proper seal, and aiding in the hydraulic performance of the pump. Regular maintenance and proper material selection are essential for ensuring optimal pump operation.

Slurry Pump Throat Bush is interchangeable with AH/HH/L/M slurry pump throat bush, It links plate liner and forms a Pump chamber to work with impeller, as one of wetted parts for the slurry pump, Its wear-resistance is very important to pump worklife. Pansto offers high chrome alloy which is high abrasion resistance, and maintenance simplified by the use of tapered mating faces to allow positive accurate alignment during assembly and simple removal.

Features & Benifits

1. Wear Protection:

The throat bush acts as a protective barrier against wear caused by abrasive slurry. Slurry pumps are commonly used in industries where the pumped fluid contains solid particles, and these particles can cause wear on pump components. The throat bush helps minimize wear on the pump’s interior surfaces, particularly in the area where the slurry enters the impeller.

2. Sealing:

Another important function of the throat bush is to help create a seal between the suction side and the pressure side of the pump. This is essential for maintaining efficiency and preventing leakage. A well-maintained throat bush contributes to the overall sealing integrity of the pump.

3. Maintaining Hydraulic Performance:

The design of the throat bush is crucial for maintaining the hydraulic performance of the pump. It helps guide the slurry into the impeller, ensuring a smooth flow and preventing turbulence that could negatively impact efficiency.

4. Easy Replacement:

Given that the throat bush is subjected to wear over time, it’s designed to be replaceable. This allows for easier maintenance and extends the overall lifespan of the pump. Regular inspection and replacement of the throat bush are important aspects of pump maintenance.

5. Material Selection:

The material used for the throat bush is chosen based on the characteristics of the pumped slurry. Common materials include high chrome alloy, rubber, polyurethane, and ceramic, selected for their wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and durability.

Structure of Throat Bush in Slurry Pump

The basic structure of the PH(AH) series heavy-duty slurry pumps featuring a high chrome alloy throat bush. The wetted parts made from other materials are interchangeable, while the non-wetted parts remain identical across different configurations.

The slurry pump throat bush is a critical wetted part of a horizontal centrifugal slurry pump system. Located at the entrance of the pump’s impeller on the inside of the outer casing, it combines with the volute liner and frame plate liner insert to form the pump chamber that surrounds the impeller and helps guide the slurry into the impeller, ensuring a smooth flow. The throat bush acts as a protective barrier against wear caused by abrasive slurry.

FAQ

What is throatbush?

Throatbush is one of wet parts of slurry pumps. It links plate liner and forms a Pump chamber to work with impeller. As a wet part, its material is very important and Excellence pump offer high chrome white iron (%27chrome) throatbush which is very abrasive-resistant.

A throat bushing in a centrifugal pump isolates the mechanical seal environment from the overall flow within the pump. By changing the clearance at the throat bushing, pressure in the seal chamber and seal flush flow rate can be manipulated to provide a better sealing environment.

In general, the term “throat” bushing is used in low-pressure stuffing boxes and “throttle” bushing refers to the bushing in a high-pressure stuffing box. Flooded suction: If the pump is below the liquid source, and the suction is fed by gravity. This is a preferred method for centrifugal pumps.
