Description of Pump Expeller Ring
The expeller ring is one of the main components composed of the centrifugal seal of the slurry pump, and the centrifugal seal is the most commonly used shaft seal type on the slurry pump. However, centrifugal seals also have limitations.
All centrifugal seals have a limited number of inlet heads, which can be sealed relative to the running pump head. First, the acceptable inlet head limit is set by the ratio of the propeller diameter to the main blade diameter of the impeller.
Depending on the design, most blades will be sealed, provided that the intake head does not exceed 10% of the working discharge head of a standard impeller.
Uses and Features
Slurry Pump Expeller Ring is used for AH/HH/L/M slurry pumps, The expeller ring is together work with expeller for the slurry pumps. They can not only help seal the pump, but also reduce the centrifugal force. The design and material of expeller is significant to its service life, Pansto offers expeller in cast iron, high chrome and rubber materials for options.
- Horizontal centrifugal slurry pumps mainly have 3 shaft seal options.
- A-Gland Seal B-Mechanical Seal C-Centrifugal Seal
- Slurry pump centrifugal seal consists of an ‘expeller’which is positioned behind the impeller and is separated from the main pumping cavity by ‘expeller ring’. As the pump is running above a minimum speed, the expeller hydraulically seals the shaft by rotating with the impeller, generating a differential pressure gradient that forces the slurry away from the shaft seal and back towards the main volute cavity.
- Hi-Seal (HS1),the update of expeller seal and It features an increased diameter, which results in a larger differential pressure being created when in operation. This higher differential pressure results in a better sealing experience and allows even larger pump sizes to seal effectively.

How to install AH Slurry Pump Rubber Seal
This video demonstrates the installation of important rubber seals for our SH horizontal metal slurry pumps.
This pump series is equivalent to the Warman AH heavy-duty slurry pumps, and their parts are 100% interchangeable. They utilize the expeller seal type, with key rubber seals including the expeller O-ring, shaft sleeve O-ring, expeller ring seal, and the rubber seals between the volute and the throat bush and back liners.
FAQ
What is the function of the expeller ring?
Expeller rings are designed to create a seal between the impeller and the pump casing, preventing the slurry from leaking out of the pump and ensuring optimal performance. These rings are typically made of high-quality materials such as rubber, polyurethane, or metal to withstand the harsh conditions of slurry pumping.
What is the expeller seal on a slurry pump?
Expeller. The primary function of the expeller is to achieve sealing and prevent slurry leakage through its unique design. It plays a crucial role in industries such as mining, coal, and chemicals, where efficient and stable operation is essential.
how to maintain the expeller ring?
To ensure the longevity and efficiency of slurry pump expeller rings, proper maintenance and care are essential. Here are some key tips to keep in mind:
1. Regular Inspections: Inspect the expeller ring regularly for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Look for any cracks, pitting, or erosion that may indicate the need for replacement.
2. Cleanliness: Keep the expeller ring and surrounding components clean and free from debris. Build-up of slurry particles or other contaminants can hinder the expeller ring’s performance.
3. Lubrication: Ensure that the expeller ring is properly lubricated to reduce friction and prolong its lifespan. Use a high-quality lubricant suitable for the specific conditions the pump operates in.
4. Alignment: Check the alignment of the expeller ring with the impeller and other pump components. Misalignment can lead to premature wear and reduced efficiency.
5. Temperature and Pressure Monitoring: Monitor the temperature and pressure levels of the pump to prevent overheating and excessive stress on the expeller ring. High temperatures and pressures can accelerate wear and cause seal failures.
