AHF Horizontal Froth Pump Description

The AHF Series Horizontal Froth Pumps represent our latest generation of froth slurry pumps. These horizontal centrifugal slurry pumps feature a double-casing structure and are through-bolt connected. They have been specially developed based on the PH Series(Equal to Warman AH Pumps) Heavy Duty Slurry Pumps to meet the increasing demand for efficiently pumping high head and flow flotation mineral froth.

Capable of transporting even high froth factor slurries efficiently and stably, they are a reliable choice for handling various abrasive or corrosive frothy slurries and are widely used in mining, coal washing, metallurgy, pulp and paper, chemical, and other industries.

The main distinction from the PH series pumps lies in the design of the inlet section; however, the remaining components remain identical, utilizing the same connections, drive mechanisms, bearing assemblies, and shaft seal assemblies. Notable improvements have been made to the impeller and throat bush. The unique design, incorporating an oversized inlet and a semi-open impeller with flow inducer blades, enhances suction capabilities for frothy slurries and minimizes the occurrence of airlocks.

Features & Benefits

  1. High Head and Flow: The special horizontal structural design enables it to excel in efficiently pumping various high-head and high-flow heavy froth slurries.
  2. Heavy Duty Structure: Featuring a double-casing bolted with lined wear and corrosion-consistent wetted parts, a one-piece frame, and a large shaft diameier with a short overhang, ensuring reliability and easy maintenance.
  3. Optional Wetted Parts: Choose from high chrome alloy, rubber, or polyurethane for enhanced adaptability to various working conditions.
  4. Oversized inlet design: The use of an oversized inlet design helps reduce the inlet velocity, thereby minimizing the resistance for frothy slurry to enter the pump interior.
  5. Optimal Impeller Design: The semi-open impeller with flow inducer blades that extend into the inlet, initiates pre-rotation and shearing of the froth within the inlet, effectively preventing airlock at the impeller eye.
  6. Flexible Drive Arrangement: Choose between direct coupling or belt drive based on working conditions and individual preferences.
  7. Adjustable Discharge Direction: Install at 45° intervals and rotate 8 different angles according to the needs of use.
  8. Optional Shaft Seals: Options with gland packing seal, expeller centrifugal seal, and mechanical seal are available.
  9. Reliable Bearing Assembly: Adopting a integrally movable cartridge-type bearing assembly with grease-lubricated roller bearings, easy to adjust impeller clearance and maintenance.

Structures of AHF Horizontal Pump

Construction of Horizontal Froth Pump
  • Impeller:with oversized inducer blades on each vane and a large eye making the air bubbles dissipate or reduce in size so that they do not inhibit the flow of the slurry.
  • Volute Liner: Available different harded metal, natrual rubber and synthetic elastomers lining options to suit specific applications.
  • Shaft sealing: centrifugal seal (dry-seal,elimination gland seal water),common gland seal and mechanical seal.
  • Bearing Assembly: removeable cartridge style grease luburicated bearing assembly can be replaced with the base. Also oil lubricated heavy duty bearing assemblies available.
  • Installation: same footprint and connections as A series pump,FH series pump could be easily replace a A series pump by simply changing few parts, impeller, throatbush, cover plate.

The diagram shows the basic structure of AHF Series Horizontal Froth Pumps.

Double-casing structure with through-bolt connected, ductile iron outer casing lined with wear and corrosion-resistant wet end parts.

The cartridge-type bearing assembly adopts grease-lubricated roller bearings, and the end cover seal adopts a labyrinth seal.

Applications

  1. Flotation Process Support: AHF horizontal froth pumps are primarily used in the flotation process at various metal mineral dressing plants to separate concentrate from waste gangue material in flotation cells. This involves incorporating added air and reagents. These pumps play a crucial role in efficiently transporting air-entrained flotation froth slurry, which is often a challenging task.
  2. Concentrate Thickener Feed and Underflow: Efficiently transfers materials for concentrate thickening processes.
  3. Tenacious Regrind Cyclone Feed: Handles the challenging task of feeding cyclones in regrind operations.
  4. Bitumen Froth Transfer: Effectively transfers bitumen froth in demanding applications.
  5. Tailings Filtration: Supports the filtration process for tailings management.
  6. Tailings Solvent Recycle: Contributes to solvent recycling in tailings applications.

FAQ

What Froth Factor Can My Pumps Handle?

  • The froth pump selection will depend on the froth volume factor (FVF) and the flow rate of the slurry you need to pump.
  • It need to take into consideration the throughput of the plant and the actual stream the pump is in – concentrate or tailings – as well as what section of the flotation process the pump is installed in.
  • To determine the froth volume factor (FVF), you will need to take slurry samples from the suction piping, as close to the pump inlet as possible. Fill several beakers so that the results can be averaged and measure the froth column and liquid. Let it de-aerate for 24 hours and then measure again.
  • The FVF is the ratio of the aerated volume to de-aerated volume.

Froth contains very fine particles, and rubber liners withstand this type of wear very well, proving to be very cost-effective. We use rubber or metal liners, offering them in natural rubber, synthetic rubber options for slurries with hydrocarbon or reagents content, or high chrome white iron if required.

  • Mineral froth is a three-phase aerated mixture containing solids, liquid and air. The air contained in the mineral froth complicates suction conditions, often resulting in an air lock at the impeller eye.
  • Unlike standard centrifugal slurry pumps, AlphaFlo® horizontal froth pumps contain a unique impeller with oversized inducer blades on each vane and a large eye. This makes the entrained air bubbles dissipate or reduce in size so that they do not inhibit the flow of the slurry.

Panasto slurry parts compatible with the Warman AHF slurry pumps have been rigorously reverse engineered using  2D 3D modeling. First article inspection involves comparison to OEM parts followed by fit testing. All impellers have been performance tested to certify them against OEM performance.
